CAMP SOAR

  

 

LITERACY & SCIENCE/MATH CAMPS

COST: $350 per camp  
LOCATION: SNU School for Children 
(3100 N. Rockwell. Bethany) 
 
REQUIREMENT: Students must have completed grades K, 1, or 2. 
NOTE: If children are enrolled in both camps, they may bring a lunch from home. Space is limited to 25 students per camp. $50 non-refundable deposit per camp is required with application.


 
LITERACY CAMP (9am-12pm, June 17 - July 12, 2019)

In this 4-week camp, instructors provide exciting reading, writing, and language activities in a fun, relaxed, camp-like setting. Activities include individualized reading instruction, games, songs, journal writing, and cooking experiences. This 4-week camp is designed to help students maintain or exceed their reading level over the summer.

SCIENCE /MATH CAMP (1pm-4pm, June 17 - July 12, 2019)

In this 4-week camp, instructors present exciting science and math concepts that will enhance problem-solving skills. Students will participate in experiments, hands-on activities and games, all designed to explore the relationship between science and math. This 4-week camp is designed to enrich your child's science and math skills in fun filled experiences.

WOODWORKING

COST: $150 per session  
LOCATION: Bethany First Church Wood Shop 
(Southeast corner of N.W. 42nd and Mueller) 
 
REQUIREMENT: Students must have completed grades 2-10 
NOTE: Each listed Woodworking Camp is a one week camp. Space is limited to 12 students per session.

In all sessions of this one-week camp, students will learn how to use a variety of woodworking tools and machines. Safety will be stressed as each student makes his/her own pen on a lathe as well as other daily projects. Returning campers will be working on new projects.  If attending another camp, transportation between camps is not provided.

ART

COST: $125 per session

Explorations in Art! Creations of 2-D and 3-D visual art will allow students to experience drawing and painting, sculpting, printmaking, and multi-media production in age appropriate processes. Returning students will create different projects.

CODING

COST: $125 per session

REQUIREMENT: Students must have completed 1st-3rd grade (SESSION 1) or 4th-8th (SESSION 2)
NOTE: If children are enrolled in an AM & PM camp, they may bring a lunch from home

Students will learn basic to complex coding concepts through puzzles, games, collaboration, problem solving, online learning, and unplugged activities. Internet safety and digital citizenship will be stressed.

COOKING

COST: $125 per session  
LOCATION: SNU School for Children

REQUIREMENT: Students must have completed 3rd-8th grade
NOTE: Space is limited to 8 students per camp. If children are enrolled in both an AM & PM camp, they may bring a lunch from home.

Session 1 will be an introduction into simple cooking and baking techniques. Students will make meals that they can make at home, including desserts!

Session 2 students will learn how to bake cookies, cupcakes with icing, and various other dessert items. Some experience in the kitchen is recommended.

In both sessions, kitchen safety and practicing good kitchen hygiene will be stressed.

INTRO TO PROGRAMMING

Students will be introduced to important computer science concepts.  Through building their own unique programs and 2-D games, students will see that technology makes it possible to accomplish things that would be very time consuming without the help of computers.

UKULELE

COST: $125 per session (plastic ukulele)
            $150 per session (wooden ukulele)
LOCATION: SNU School for Children

Space is limited to 12 students per session
REQUIREMENTS: Must have completed 3rd-5th grade (SESSION 1) or 6th-8th grade (SESSION 2) or 3rd-8th (SESSION 3)
NOTE: If children are enrolled in an AM & PM camp, they may bring a lunch from home

Learn to play the ukulele!  This camp focuses on teaching the basics of playing the ukulele.  Throughout the week, students will gain the skills and knowledge to continue self study of this very accessible instrument even after camp is over.  Advanced students will learn even more about the ukulele. Have fun doing Kani Ka Pila (Hawaiian for a jam session)!
